Close examination reveals faint lines where the segmented punch inserts come together.
An example of a set of carbide inserts removed to demonstrate how they assemble.
This novel design, offered in selected straight-sided shapes, can double the life of your tool at minimal extra cost. Unlike standard one-piece carbide inserts which over time will tend to show stress cracks at the corners, our segmented series is configured with pre-cut side pieces rigidly clamped together by the die casing.
Many of our customers who at first were skeptical of this concept have now been “won over” by the economic benefits of the segmented design. They have experienced significant extension of the service life of the tool with no deterioration in the quality of the end products. Typically, these tools have lasted twice as long as conventional dies, and in a few cases, service life has tripled.
The Sakamura Group, known worldwide for the precision and durability of its cold forming machines, uses segmented punches almost exclusively in many of their operations. Their engineers, who have the option of choosing virtually any kind of tooling for their machines, have time and again specified the segmented punch to provide the best overall long-term value. |
